therapeutic gardening and healing

programs & projects -> therapeutic gardening and healing

Though the field of using horticulture as therapy is relatively new, the principle of using using plants and gardens as a means for healing is an ancient concept. EYA works with a variety of organizations to provide horticultural activities to support well-being.

A number of groups are currently partnering with EYA, using gardening as therapy. Groups working with diverse people, from young children to the elderly, with a variety of health issues have all benefited from EYA’s therapeutic horticulture projects. These partnerships focus on improving cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing for the participants.

"One of the most enjoyable classes I have ever taken."      Natural Medicine in the City Participant

EYA runs Natural Medicine in the City, an herbalism course. This course focuses on using local plants to improve health, as well as the hands-on learning of skills to produce natural preparations. This course always has a wait-list and just goes to show that the ancient art of using plants to heal is still as relevent today as it once was.
